I don’t know what it is about this time of year in Finland, but between February and March I always have the loudest cacophony of confusion in my brain/mood. The recovery after total immersion in winter darkness and bitter cold can create unwanted stress and therefore creates an interesting layer of unidentifiable blues.
I come from a city that has no distinctive seasons (typically). The temperature may stay relatively the same in Los Angeles, however the trees will bloom, the bees will buzz and leaves will fall according to patterns. Often times these biological occurrences are your only clues that times are a changin’. The reappearance of the sun and some resemblance of warmth should be a welcomed change up north, but I still find it difficult to move from one extreme to the next in Finland.
To help motivate your mood away from the seasonal (or situational) blues, here are some songs to toss on your playlist — a munificent mix of Finland, LA and everything in between:
Joe Bonamassa – Just Got Paid
Dr. Helander & Third Ward – Third Ward Boogie
Rival Sons – Too Bad
Mr. Big – Lucky This Time
Ryan Bingham – Blue
Led Zeppelin – Going to California
Melrose – It’s in the bag
JD McPherson – Lucky Penny
Ramones – The KKK Took my Baby Away
The Eagles – Try and Love Again
Tuomari Nurmio & Knucklebone Oscar – God Almighty’s Gonna Cut you Down
Bad Religion – Los Angeles is Burning
The Winery Dogs – Oblivion
CKY – Familiar Realm
Social Distortion – Reach for the Sky
Cheers to spring! That weird, confused thing that doesn’t quite shape up until June.
